Tour overview

Situated in the lower regions of the Himalayas, the Kathmandu UNESCO Cultural Heritage sightseeing is recorded as seven Monument Zones. These Cultural Heritage sites are the temples and public spaces of the three cities of Kathmandu (Hanuman Dhoka), Bhaktapur and Patan, Durbar squares or urban centers with their palaces, and the religious ensembles of Bauddhanath, Swayambhu, Changu Narayan, and Pashupati.

The religious ensemble of Bauddhanath includes the largest stupa in Nepal, and that of Swayambhu includes the oldest Buddhist monument (a stupa) in the Valley; a Hindu temple complex with probably the earliest inscriptions in the Valley from the fifth century AD, and Pashupati has a wide Hindu temple region, and Changu Narayan offers a traditional Newari settlement. The remarkable tiered temples are generally made of fired block with timber structures and mud mortar. The rooftops are covered with gilded brass ornamentation, with little overlapping terracotta tiles. The doorways, roof struts, and windows have rich beautiful carvings. The stupas have simple but durable structures with huge, whitewashed hemispheres supporting overlaid golden cubes with the omnipresent eternal Buddha eyes. In this sightseeing tour, you get to witness a lot of attractions as you explore numerous Buddhist and Hindu sacred sites and comprehend Nepal’s cultural traditions and historical art. You get to visit the UNESCO-listed Kathmandu Durbar Square and learn about the Shah and Malla dynasties that once ruled the Kathmandu Valley.
